Wildfires

A yellow brown haze suffocates

the glistening of inky green lakes.

The sun blares orange,

consuming everything in a red rage.

When it’s finally extinguished behind jagged mountains

the horizon will glow in hot pinks and smoky greens.

You forgot this caveat of Western life –

summers so parched the earth hisses

and hungry sparks devastate for miles.
