On the Road to Rasht

A hot car – probably as old

as my my parents.

The muddy pond too much

of a temptation – we stop.

The water laps at my ankles

as the sun bakes through my scarf.

Before this, I didn’t know that heat

could be wet and soggy

or that home

could be thousands

of miles from where I

lived.
